Using my Fujitsu Lifebook U820, 32GB iPhone 3GS, and Sprint U300 (3G/4G)

I alternate between heavily using my 32GB iPhone 3GS or heavily using my Fujitsu Lifebook U820. My eyes must finally be going, because I changed the settings to 150% dpi on the lifebook so that I can enjoy the high-res pictures but still read on its 5.6-inch 1280 x 800 screen. At 100% dpi, I had to hold the U820 right in front of my face in order to read text. Under Windows 7, the magnification button was changed from “toggle resolution” to “Windows magnifier” when I upgraded the Fujitsu drivers for Windows 7. I honestly preferred the lower-resolution toggles when I pressed the magnify button.
Sprint drivers under Windows 7 still suck. Stephanie Vinge at Sprint says this may change in “2-3 weeks”. Maybe we’ll see an update to Sprint SmartView soon?

150dpi looks pretty good on the U820 (I got mine a few days ago).
Unfortunately, I’ve had tons of problems w/Vista, including failure to perform anything that requires administrator permission, no auto-rotate of the desktop in tablet mode, and slowness.
I’d also like to figure out how to keep Firefox from zooming way-the-heck-in on every webpage.
I’m sure, as everyone else has said, this will become a completely different machine once I replace Vista with Win7.
Between the BIOS firmware update to 1.22 and a long list of driver & software updates, you might want to check out:

I haven’t run Vista on mine in a while, but the Fujitsu BIOS update and drivers make a world of difference under Windows 7. I’d highly recommend upgrading to Windows 7 as soon as you can and updating to the latest drivers.
Under Windows Vista, the User Account Control (UAC) is VERY annoying. I had it prompting me for password all the time, so I had to disable UAC when I was doing driver updates or software installs. UAC still exists under Windows 7, but is considerably less annoying.
Ken – How is the iPhone 3Gs so far? Are you missing your palm at all? Any issues / good things to say about it?
Jim
Jim: so far so good. I think Vicky is kinda glad that I migrated back to the iPhone since I’m investigating how it syncs and she gets the benefits of it. We both keep our calendars in Google Calendar, and sync using Pocket Informant so we can see each other’s schedule.
Most of the major Palm apps also exist as iPhone apps. I had my doubts about her nursing software. She has apps on her palm to look up the Merck manual, dosage calculations, and EKG monitoring. Surprisingly, we found most of them on the iPhone as well… including one that allows her to plug her stethoscope into the iPhone for graphing and monitoring.
Nothing bad to say about the iPhone 3Gs this far. Battery life is no better or worse than previous iPhone 3G. With very heavy usage, I charge mine at night on the bedstand and at work on my desk. I haven’t jailbroken the 3Gs nor do I intend to. I have jailbroken Vicky’s 3G.
We’re getting the Sprint PHS300S tomorrow or Friday after we realized we’ve burnt up the Verizon FiOS router thrice now. After burning up the transformer on the last, we got a third-gen ActionTec router. Being without internet for a couple days, I realized we needed a 4G/3G MyFi as backup. With the PHS300S, I can plug the Sprint U300 into it and get 4-7Mbps on 4G and EVDO Rev.A speeds on 3G.
A friend at CradlePoint was telling me the story behind the PHS300S and its firmware, so we’ll have plenty of tech support and information on it. It’s a very cool device short of the MBR1200.
