I'd love to watch Makoto Shinkai's latest (The Garden of Words) this weekend! I need to find a site that has the Blu-Ray or HD streaming here in the US.

  1. I'm a huge fan of everything by Haruki Murakami and Makoto Shinkai.  I knew eyes-wide-open that this was going to be an "adult film" (no, not really, but whatever for anime).

Shinkai writes like Murakami does.  Lopsided, dysfunctional relationships seem to be popular in Japanese fiction.  Even American fiction about the Japanese ("Snow Falling on Cedars") shows that disparity.

I have no doubt I'll enjoy watching 'Garden of Words' this evening.  I highly doubt my wife will enjoy it as much as I do… she was pretty angry at "5 Centimeters Per Second"

  2. +Michael Huttner I finally got a chance to watch The Garden of Words with +Victoria Foreman this evening.  Wow, that was breathtakingly well-done.

I really enjoyed Five Centimeters Per Second, although my wife didn't enjoy it as much because of the unresolved stories.  We both really enjoyed The Garden of Words.  Makoto Shinkai is an incredible storyteller, as poetic as he is detailed in his animation.

Watching his latest was a treat.

  3. +Ken Foreman Yeah, he's more of a poet than a story-teller, and I like that.
