3-5 Weeks until Infinity

01 Aug

Spoke with Asus today, looks like I'll be getting my 64GB Asus Transformer Infinity with Keyboard Dock this month.

The "Amethyst Grey" are in stores now, most commonly as a 32GB models. The "Champagne Gold" are in production and shipping soon, with 64GB in high demand.

The higher-res screen and faster Tegra 3 processor will be a nice bump up from my Transformer Prime. My iPad 3 ("new iPad") will be going to my wife while the Infinity will be my workhorse tablet for notetaking, remote access, and Android development.

Let me know what you think, this is my backup if the x86 tablets fail to deliver on battery like life.

Between Asus and initial reviews on androidpolice & transformersforum, it's pretty consistent that there's a nearly 20% decrease in battery life on the Infinity over the Prime.

The higher-res screen (1900×1200) and Tegra T33 processor eat up a great deal of juice. Supposedly ICS 4.0.4 build 22 fixes some of the throttling, performance, and battery life issues. 4.0.4b26 is in testing, out shortly. Asus will be releasing Jelly Bean to the Prime, Pad, and Infinity in another month or two.

Battery life on the Prime has been ~10 hours with the tablet and ~20 hours when docked. Based on Infinity performance, I can expect 8-16 hours on the tablet alone or when supplemented by the dock. I think the core throttling and IPS+ modes on the Infinity will correct for battery life as the OS catches up with the new hardware. XDA dev and Asus agree that hardware is improving faster than the OS drivers and development can keep up with.

Best remote access app? I haven't tried the ASUS version on my basic Transformer so I'm looking for recommendations.

With Better Terminal and PocketCloud Pro, there hasn't been any UNIX or Windows-based server that I haven't been able to log into…

PocketCloud Pro is great for graphic access to my Apple, Redhat, Solaris, and Windows gear.

Better Terminal is my SSH client of choice for life on the command line.

Funny that I just installed Koi Pond on my TF101 and just looked again at your post. Because it shows in full screen I thought for a moment I had returned to my home screen.
