How has it been doing? I'm intrigued by this. Does it have various sensors in different rooms and air ducts or just the one unit?

It has the potential for several remote sensors, and it's something in development according to their blog. Currently it only monitor temperature, humidity, visual, and infrared in the room it's placed in.

But does your ritetemp thermostat give you the smug satisfaction of knowing that you're supporting ex-Googlers in their endeavor to engineer overpriced products in a new environment? They looked so cute holding the "Please support ex-Googler, can't afford 2012 Fischer Karma, please buy my $249 thermostat" when I watched the ad on Kickstart.
But seriously, I seem to be a sucker for bleeding-edge products. I did the same with Danger when they created the Hiptop and sold it as the T-Mobile Sidekick. Andy Ruben later left Danger to work for Google, you know his latest project as Android.
Not having parted with enough money under Danger/T-Mobile, I invested good money after bad in Dash Network's GPS. A GPS with cellular and wifi, it knew the location and speed of all other Dash GPS. It used Dash and Inrix data to determine traffic speeds and optimal routing.
Well, the Dash GPS was a disaster due to pricing, the OMAP3 processor, and really shitting coding skills on Dash's part. RIM was interested in the technology, and bought Dash.

Moral of the story: expect Ritetemp to buy Nest in another year, mark the price down to a reasonable $60-$80, and you can find it at Wal-Mart once they're under new management.
